Despite a drop straight to the attacks of September 11, 2001, global traffic, whetherpassenger or cargo, is growing constantly and steadily for several decades.
The year 2008 is however a year of change: if the traffic in the first quarter followingthe upward slope of the years 2004-2007, the spring was marked by surging oil prices, reflected in fuel surcharges.
From September 2008, the effects of the global financial crisis were felt, particularlyfor air cargo, which collapsed in October.
Air traffic in 2009 recorded its largest drop since the second world war. Passenger traffic declined 3.5% and cargo traffic fell by 10.1%.
Only the Middle East has seen an increase in traffic (+11.2%). Africa was a resultdown 6.8% against -5.6% for Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. Latin Americahas in turn increased slightly by 0.3%. The international business of transportingfreight shows, meanwhile, a decrease of -20.6% over the first six months of 2009.
